Yeah, fixed my dam VRS front end clunking

Featured Replies

For over the past year i have been trying to get to the bottom of this clunking/knocking noise.

I have replaced subframe bushes for Audi TT / LCR two piece ones, I have poly bushes all round. I stripped and serviced my KW coil overs, fitted LCR top mounts, replaced and checked all bolts, replaced drop links, checked drive shafts..... you name it.

Turned out to be a lower wishbone ball joint! .......

When i fitted my TT/R32 cast wishbones they came with ball joint fitted. Should of changed them really when fitting the wishbones. Mind you the car has been through 2 MOT's with them fitted.

I did check for play and was none so assumed ok. when I removed the left ball joint today it was very sloppy. Never thought that would of caused the prominent noise.

Back to loving car again

Hope this help's someone...

Worn balljoints (on cast wishbones) was something I mentioned in post about a year ago

I fitted new Merle pattern parts when installing the wishbones, which went sloppy in about 2 months

Now have genuine OE, which are lasting much better

Ahhh yes, wonderful Meyle. Tried those myself. Managed best part of a whole year. Trouble was I'd replaced drop links and trackrod ends too.

What were the symptoms of your knocking again bowders? My knocking has changed since I fitted strut bearings, drop links and ARB bushes so I'm thinking this may be the next step. Mine is currently knocking approaching full lock but fairly confident it only happens when moving slowly.

Mine was more than just a knock/clunk - a distinct wobbly-ness from offending BJ (front left) too

i used trw last time which used to be oe and they lasted like 6 months :( from gsf

You did buddy....but because i just had MOT and could feel no play i just did not rule them as the issue.

I was getting a slight knock on turning steering wheel, more noticeable in reverse. Certainly when turning on reverse as it was probably putting pressure in the ball joint forcing the wheel outwards thinking about it.

Then was getting a clunk/knock when driving, normally felt it going slower.

Your symptoms do sound the same as mine buddy.

I've had a clunk from the nsf suspension for about 6 months, sailed though the mot but for a week now it's gone quiet, it's worrying me more now lol

Sent from my Galaxy S3, not a Crapple!

Might have a look into it in that case. Although part of me wonders if its just easier to replace the whole lower arm assembly in one go.
