2006 Octavia 1.4 Petrol Alternator Belt info/diagram

Featured Replies

Hi,

New Skoda owner here (coming from old '97 Honda Civic SRS 5 door H/B days).

Where can I find the diagram for the above and is it a Serpentine Belt that's

employed.? Hearing a light whine from right front area when engine well warmed

up and in start/stop traffic. (Timing Belt done 20k earlier according to sticker) .

The Alternator was replaced by the dealer when I purchased the car, as the

mechanic doing the presale service reported a problem with the chargeing

process. Im wondering if the belt is a little bit tighter than necessary.

Any advice ?

If you have a/c, then the aux belt has a tensioner, so unless that's faulty, the belt tension should be OK.

If you don't have a/c, then the belt will be tensioned automatically during the alternator installation.

Hi Briskodian,

Thanks for the reply and info. Have'nt got a/c, but would like to know more

about how automatic tensioning is achieved during a new installation.

Regds,

Jim

Loosen the mounting bolts on the alternator, push the alternator down so you can put the belt on the pulley. Let it come back up and tighten the bolts. Turn the engine over, loosen the bolts and then torque them up.

Thanks rwbaldwin,

As simple as that ?

Cheers.

Yes. And if you are using the old belt, you don't really need to crank the engine to take out the stiffness.
