Radiator fans going crazy after short drive and engine switched off

Featured Replies

So took the Blackline out of the garage this morning to take kids to childminder/school.

After the approx 3 miles stopped the car and parked up with engine off.

Strong smell of burning outside the car near exhaust end with the engine fans going crazy.

Don't think this is a fault but could it possibly be a regeneration of the DPF?

Outside temperature was plus2 and not plus25 so there was no need for the engine to be overheating neither was it driven hard for the 10 minute drive.

Thanks in advance for any comments.

Mine does this every now and then, happens when a DPF regen gets interrupted. Gets very hot, so fans cool it all down. Not noticed a burning smell before though.

It was probably just a dpf regen mate. I have noticed a slight burning smell when i stopped mine in the middle of a regen. What was the idle speed of the engine? If it was about 950 rpm them it will have been a regen of the dpf. I have also noticed that when you interupt a regen the engine reaches 90°c almost twice as quickly as normal if the engine is cold the next time you start it.
