In a bind - help needed.

Featured Replies

Hi all.

I have a standard 2006 Fabia vRS. Yesterday, the engine management light on the dashboard came on :( Car runs fine, plenty power, no change in fuel economy, coolant temp. fine etc. However I also noticed that the air con wasn't working. I noticed in the handbook that air con and engine diagnostics shar the same fuse? Could problems be related? Fuse seemed ok but changed it anyway. Seemed to fix aircon but light stayed on. If anyone could help, that would be ace as I need the car for long distance runs tomorrow and Tuesday and no one can squeeze it in for a look!

where are you ?

I doubt they are linked. The CEL could be from a random thing the ECU has sensed, eg a bit of crap in the fuel causing a slight misfire in one cylinder or something. If the car is running and boosting OK, I wouldn't worry too much. Wait for physical symptoms before worrying, compared to just a light,

Ideally you want someone with VCDS to scan the engine module to see what fault it could be, (or thinks it could be)

@ Binzi, I'm in Warrington.

@ Devonutopia - thanks mate that's sort of how I felt. I just needed a second opinion for a little more peace of mind.

Spend £6 and buy a generic lead, download VCDS lite and find out what's caused it. Alternatively we can keep guessing or you can pay someone a lot more money to read the fault code or ask a local member with VCDS?

motorhole,

could be a list of items, mine has switched on twice, i have had 3 glow plugs changed, skoda charge £65 to inspect so see if someone can help out.

Cheers guys. I may well invest in an obd2 lead and some software. For now, my local VAG specialist will do fault find for free its just a matter of when he can fit it in.

I'm down the road in Prescot. Give us a shout if you want me to hook up VCDS Lite.

Okay, stopped by my local friendly VAG specialist on the way into work this morning. He very kindly made 10 minutes to run a diagnosis - it was the fuel temperature sensor. He cleared the fault, so if it comes on again in the meantime, time to get a new one. Nothing major, conscience clear :hi: thanks guys.
