"A" Pillar black trim

Featured Replies

Lazy Easter Monday, so I decided to wash the Yeti, this is the first wash since I collected the car from the body shop on 20th December 2012, I had to wash it a few times to get rid of all the little black tar spots, when I was leathering it I noticed the shiny black A pillar trim was cracked, it has nearly cracked in half, a little bit is hanging on.

You can see where a stone has hit it, so I guess I will have to get one ordered. I think these should be made of a more robust substance as they tend to scratch easy and are quite brittle too.

Micromesh, a prod for aeroplane screens works extremely well on these covers to reduce the scratching, possibly silver polish also works. I repair/renovate some B&O kit, the black perspex always needs some attention and its Micromesh for me hardly any swirls left if you follow the leaflet!

That's bad luck. I would have expected them to be polycarbonate, for strength and finish, like the light covers. Has anyone seen one off, to look at the moulding identification marks?

This what you are after; previous 2009 SE when the windscreen broke.

TP

Thanks, TP! PMMA = acrylic (c Perspex) as far as I remember (rather a long time ago :nerd: ). Slightly surprised, if I'm right - acrylic can shatter, polycarbonate won't.

Thats the one TP, I am in for a service on 18th so will pick up a new set, I believe you have to buy a brace.

James, just to scare me, do you recall what they cost?

In the last week I appear to have been hit by something that's chipped the head light, chipped the bonnet, broken the bottom corner off of the a pillar trim and chipped the passenger door on the way past.
