I have a 2.0 petrol octavia AQY engine and the temp gauge only registers a temp above 50 deg c rarely. It sometimes does it if left idling but in general driving it is very rare. I changed the stat today hoping that would cure it but no change. I checked the old stat and it is fine. Is there anything else I should be looking at?

Perhaps the coolant temp sensor.

I changed coolant temp sensor nothing happend.... Changed thermostat now hits 90 and stays ther. Both cheap fix

Get a genuine coolant sensor too from dealer or TPS (Green usually)
