Rear bumper paint thickness/swirl-ability

Featured Replies

The rear bumper on my vrs seems to swirl incredibly easily. Only 2 weeks after polishing and waxing the entire car, paying extra attention to the rear and they've appeared again. Is the paint on the rear bumper just stupidly thin, or is this just inevitable due to it being plastic?

I dont have that issue on a green one. Maybe its the black shows it up a bit more.

Yes would agree it's the paint colour; wife lightly brushed a hedge while visiting relatives in the Monte. Couldn't see marks in the white paint but the nearside wing mirror and wheel arches needed a polish and even then there still the odd mark but I've made the mistake before of trying to hard to restore the finish and made it worse, so left it at that.

I'm sure the colour does have a part to play, but the rest of the car is fine, that's what make me think the rear is just extra easy to scratch...oh well, 5 mins of AG Ultra deep shine and they're pretty much gone now

The black does indeed seem to swirl far easier than the yellow on my car, just have to spend a little bit longer on those parts of the car to make them look good :)

Gumby, I've found that two coats of Autoglym's latest Super Resin Polish, followed by two coats of Collinite wax makes everything super dandy. It works well on dark colours, or any colour actually. The Super Resin has a mild cleaner in it that lightly buffs out the swirls and infills any that it doesn't remove. I've just bought another Fabia Mk2 Estate in Cappaccino metalic. It looks great, but after the above treatment, it's looks simply amazing! It has that nice deep wet look gloss that doesn't go away. No swirls visible. Try it!

my furby had bonnet respray within the first 6 weeks of owning, as the paint was chipping and flaking off in around 5mm chunks everytime i got a stone chip

but my dealer very quickly put through a warranty claim and skoda sorted it within 2 weeks

Had the same with our previous 2010 Elegance but it didn't start being a problem until the car was over a year old. Unfortunately the VAG approved bodyshop the local dealer took it to for the warranty work did a very poor job in respraying it :S
