car won't start (classic)

Featured Replies

Hello guys and girls, first post. been lurking around for a while though.

Anyways, i'm having some difficulties starting my car. tried jumping it with my neighbours car to no avail. Lamps seemed to work, everything in the car powered up (fans, warning lights etc.). won't even turn. Tried to search the forum but couldn't find much.

But what i did find was the connector on the picture attached not doing it's job (i.e. connecting thingies). It's located on top of the starter and goes to the alternator. Might it have something to do with my problems? and does anyone know what kind of connector it is so i can go and shop for the other end?

Grateful for answers.

Nope, nothing! Immobiliser problem?

not immobilizer as the car would start then stop immediately

wiring to starter would be the first place to check.

Does it click at all?

From your picture it looks as though a wire to the starter motor has broken. Locate both ends of it and join them together, ensuring that it's properly insulated. A broken wire would cause the symptoms that you have.

No, i do not think there was a click.

I located one end, it went to the alternator. I couldn't see where the other end went, as it disappeared in a group of cables, i think maybe they went inside the car? not sure though, i will take a closer look tomorrow.

But does anyone know what type of connector it is? i don't think putting the cable straight into the connector is possible.

Thanks again!

So, it was the battery after all.... loaded it and it started with no hesitation. however, i'll turn it in to a shop to look over it as there are a few other problems aswell. obviously cables are not supposed to be cut. i've had some troubles with idling in the past so it might be that cable that's messing around.

Thanks for all the replies!
