Parts bin philosophy - so frustrating!

Featured Replies

I don't know if anyone else is frustrated by this, but every time I go on Eurocarparts or into my local motor factors, it seems that despite giving my Reg No., I come out with the wrong part or find that there are two or three alternatives available.

Good examples were the replacement mirror lens - the one from Eurcarparts was totally different, and front and rear discs and pads.

Back in the days when I owned Alfas (late eighties, early nineties), it was "Oh so entertaining", to have three choices when replacing ancilliary parts - "new jets for the carbs sir - which sort are they, Dell Orto, SU, Stromberg or maybe Weber?"

I thought that the days of just grabbing something out of a "parts bin" were finished - obviously not!

So today, hopefully I shall be jacking the car up, and measuring the front discs, and seeing if there is a name on the brake calipers - deep joy!

Deep joy.I also remember this in the 1970's. Even worse was to be told they have stopped making that part. A clutch thrust release bearing for a 1974- 18 month- old Mini (almost tried to strangle the youth behing the counter). Now that was a car to get over familiar with the local parts departments and the motor factors selling cheaper Quinton Hazell parts..

Seriously I think the problem is caused by the need to have alternative sources of parts supply.

If you give them a call or do the online chat thing they'll confirm the right parts.
