bad fuel economy

Featured Replies

Hi all,

need advice on my Octavia 2.0l glx petrol auto estate.

I am only getting 18 - 20 mpg around town also getting a smell petrol when the engine is switched off,

I have had a new cat fitted and still no change to the fuel economy.

The warning light hasn't come on at all, just wondering if its the sensors or this is the normal running mpg for urban driving?

has anyone had this problem ?

would be great for some advice on this car haha,

cheers

What power is that engine? My wife has a 2.0 Petrol passat estate and it does 28mpg at it's worst and 38mpg on any sort of run. Although it's a manual. We had issues with petrol smells and it was a broken breather hose at the back of the engine, so have a poke about..

thinks its around 113bhp but yeah not really happy with 18 mpg.

What year is it? You won't get good mileage around town, what's it like on a run?

Probably worth changing the temperature sender. When they fail, the ECU thinks the engine is cold and so it runs rich all the time which would account for the fuel smell and poor economy.
