Front seats.

Featured Replies

So, having got a spare seat cover from T.Spark which was in pretty poor condition, machine washing it and being pleased with how it came out, I intend to do the rest. I've removed all my seats except the drivers in preparation but have a question.

Obviously the drivers' seat has seen much more use, so the foam is softer etc. If I swapped the height adjustment to the other side (which seems possible) would I be able to change the passenger and drivers seats over in order to use the firmer, less-worn passenger foam on the drivers seat?

orrrrrrrr, you could get a foam base off ebay, or swap the foam bases over

Is seperating the foam from the base not a total pain in the behind?

you'll need to take off all the plastic trim the bases (about 10 screws) and undo 4 bolts on each seat to separate the back from the base.

Once apart the plastic edging on the material unhooks from under the metal base and the foam comes off with it.

Do that, swap them over, reverse the process to put everything back together.

Simples.

I did exactly the same with my Recaros.

The drivers bolster was worn more than the passenger one so i swapped them over meaning a firmer drivers seat base and the soft bolster on the inner side of the passenger seat

Yep, I've just got to it and realised that the seat base basically falls out when you've got the base cover off. I thought it was much more involved than that! So hopefully I can get that done tomorrow and have the drivers seat back together for work on Monday and do the others when I have chance during the week :)

yeah i was shocked at how little there was actually holding the seat together.

I was at least expecting the foam to be glued to the metal but nope nothing

With all the stuff off it is possible to fix the creak that most people seem to get?

Indeed. Also surprising is how much higher I feel having swapped the seat bases! Even with the seat the same height (or thereabouts, I used to run with around half a "pump" from bottom, which I've replicated after refitting the seats) I felt like I was sat in my daughter's booster on my way to work this morning.

I've never had a creak Fred, so I don't know. What I have always had is a slight "rocking", and it looks like it's a loose fastener of some sort between the front of the seat base and the frame that sits on the runners. Didn't look like something that was easily removed and replaced though so had to just go back into the car as-is so I could get to work today. It's only a few minutes to get the seat out though so I may revisit it at some point now I know what it is.

That's a rivet that wears down dude, Mines worn badly so I get mega rocking, kinda annoying as you know!

Can be fixed if you cut that rivet off and put a 10mm bolt through but you'll lose the height adjustment...
