Get the fault codes read, that'll either be back to the dealer if you got it from one or see if a member who's near you can read them for you. Next if you have access to a laptop/netbook get yourself on eBay or Amazon and buy a generic VCDS lead, it'll cost you £6-7 and allow you to read fault codes yourself.
