Passanger Rear Bearing Failed TWICE!

Featured Replies

HELP! I recently replaced the passanger rear bearing on my 56 plate Octavia. As far as I know it was still the original bearing that I removed.

All seemed pretty straight forward, and I had the new bearing replaced within the hour (with help from Niel Hoordhoek's weblog - Thanks Niel!)

The bearing was relaced week before xmas 2012 - and already it's needing replaced again!!

What could cause a bearing to fail so quickly?? Is it worth while replacing it again, or could this mean a hefty bill from a mechanic to fix the problem?

All help and info appreciated!

Probably a faulty bearing from new or you didn't get something quite right on install. Was it torqued up correctly etc?

Was it a cheap ebay bearing or a well known quality part?

Is the brake binding on?

Or badly balanced wheel

Anddenton - As far as I know it was all done correctly,

Mikey VRS - I bought it from Europarts - I can't remember the brand, it wasn't SKF or NSK etc, there was none in stock.

VRSPhil - I think the brake could be binding - i'll check this out before replacing.

Thanks, your replies have been great!

You may get the bearing exchanged if its only 5 months old, worth a try (after you have checked your brake isnt binding).
