Coilover question

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have recently bought a 2001/Y Octavia VRS which is fitted with KW variant 1 coilovers.

I'm quite particular about the ride height of my cars and to get this one to sit the way I am happy with the KW's have been wound all the way down and I have added 10mm spacers front and rear.

However, this has resulted in a very bouncy ride indeed.

What are my options? I don't really want to raise the height of the car. Is it worth going for a different brand of coilover that offers damping adjustment too?

Any ideas would be great. Here is a picture of the car:

Mine are right down aswell,,the bouncyness i'm afraid goes hand in hand with having them that low,but may be worth checking to see if the rear bumpstops have been shortened as if they haven't it will make the bouncing worse, good luck :)

Sorry buddy the bouncy ride is a fact of lowering coilovers beyond there rebound limit. The capability of the shock to keep rebound pressure is too compromised.

I would describe more as crashing than bouncing though.

You already have better than average coilovers so any other brand is going to be worse.

Only option for you is go rebound adjustable so you can not only adjust ride height but the rebound rate as well.

I have KW variant 2 for the same reason, but I suggest you go variant 3.

Not cheap but best coilover out there.

Or go for similar coilover with adjustable rebound.

I have my KW V2 wound almost down to bottom and had to use spacers at front.

Have 12mm ones.

Where did you get your 10mm spacers.

Did they clear rear arch ok. As I tried 15mm and no chance.

Sent from my Galaxy S3.

Kw v3 needed mate to stiffen up either that or raise slightly with new bump stops

Cheer for the replies.

Looks like I'm saving up for new coilovers then!

I got the 10mm spacers from eBay, hubcentric with bolts. I think they were £120 delivered for 4. No issues so far with rear arch clearance. I think you could get away with 15mm on the front.

+1

agree.

Note to OP though, all bump stops do is absorb the end travel not help with rebound so unless you raise car or get a kit with rebound adjust you won't get better optons

These pic of my car show mine low, if not lower than OP's on KW V2's.

are the bump stops shorter versions or stock ones, as that low you will be sitting on them especially under compression so will cause a bouncy ride?

What do people think of FK Konigsports?

Seems like a decent set of coilovers for the money as they use Koni shortened shocks which are damping adjustable too.

Ben

not as good as the kw, had fks in the past, and they were ok, but for quality, stick to kw, weitec, h&r etc
