steering wheel octavia mk2

Featured Replies

hi can i fit a steering wheel from a 2005 4x4 ( leather ) without (buttons) and my car is octavia 2006 mk2 elegance without leather . also i want the leader steering wheel , can it be fitted ?

If I read that right, you want a leather steering wheel (without buttons) from a 2005 to go into your 2006 to replace the standard plastic wheel (without buttons).

In which case, if the airbag is the same shape and the donor vehicle is the same generation, then yes.

If you want buttons you will probably need a new steering controller & airbag cable and coding the controller to you vehicle with VCDS.

i hope the airbag is the same because its looking like the same but the wiring contacts on the airbag i dont know but hope it is same contact

If the donor vehicle is the same generation as your then the wiring should be the same.

But aren't 2004 Mk1's? And 2005 could be either..,

i would lit to fit a audi heated stearing wheel dose anyone no if any will fit straight on??

is it easy to remove the steering wheel and the airbag ?

Yes.

Disconnect battery. Let vehicle stand for an hour (to be extra safe) to discharge completely.

Remove air bag by rotating steering wheel 90 degrees one way and releasing the clip on the back above steering column. A wide flat blades screwdriver worked for me.

Turn wheel 90 degrees the other way and do the same.

Unplug connectors behind airbag and put airbag unit carefully to one side.

Undo the nut in the centre of the wheel: take careful note if the steering wheel position on the boss and also try not to move the steering angle sensor.

Put new wheel on, replace nut (can only be officially used 7 times) and plug airbag back in then push airbag back into clips.

Replace battery connectors.

You may get a steering wheel light on your dash. Just drive straight & slow for about 50m and it will reset (unless there is actually a problem).

If an airbag warning comes up, you'll need this clearing with VCDS.

Should have added that you'll also need to reset the electric windows by winding them all the way down and all the way back up.

Otherwise the auto wind and the remote opening / closing won't work.

i dont think its wort it then if i must reset the windows and airbag warnings , why isnt it easy just unplug the battery and do the job , the system doesnt know that i am changing the steering wheel :( well well

The window reset is pretty easy and, as long as you do not turn the ignition with the air bag unplugged, you shouldn't get an airbag light.

You will get the steering light which can be reset by driving in a straight line for about 10 - 20 meters.

Not difficult really.
