flat spot in 5th about 4-5000 revs

Featured Replies

Just built up speed on slip road to motorway. Started to give it some beans and as stated in heading found a very bad flat spot. Car didn't want to go past 5000 revs. Had to drop a gear to give it a boost. Any ideas what could be the problem.

What car? 5th at those revs is well into 3 figures and serious speed.

Octavia vrs tfsi yes I was going some.

5000rpm in 5th! I saw 6k in 4th but that isn't half going some.

I think a rolling road session would be the only way to seek the issue out.

Why would you be doing 100 mph plus on a slip road ? Madness

What stage of tuning are you at?

Don't start turning the thread into a shouldn't be doing that speed etc. There are 1000,s of cars that do well over 100mph on our roads everyday.

Its a persons choice if they want to exceed the 70 mph limit.

I personally stick to slower speeds on motorways because I find it more relaxing but I've still give it the full on beans over my driving years.

Most reps seem to cruise at 100mph the way low powered A4 diesels come past me when I'm doing 75mph.

Unless it is used on a track, there shouldn't be any issue about flat spots at that engine speed in 5th. Certainly not on a public road.

I'm wondering if this has been posted just to provoke a reaction.

Depends on how far the OP has gone tuning wise. If his map is pulling a lot of fuel the stock high pressure pump cannot supply the pressure needed. If this is the case he will get what is known on the forums as a "fuel cut" and the engine will momentarily cut power.

The cuts often happen in high gear as the power is held much longer than the lower gears.

Hear, hear. For all anyone knows he was on holiday in Germany, yet folk don't answer the question and pile onto to speed issue. I did think the same when I read it but, it was not hidden nor denied afterwards. As vrs777 says not my cup of tea on roads where it's not allowed but not my licence and not my business personally.

For those wondering about where when and why I was touching 90 on a motorway slip road. I was in fact on a British motorway and the road was clear and in the early hours of the morning. No excuse, ill drive my car my way!! Rant over. I haven't remapped yet so car is as was from factory. When it goes flat it almost feels like it happens for a good second or two but once I change gear it disappears. May get diagnostics done as I it gets remapped next month.

Boasting about speeding on the internet is not big or clever. If you end up killing someone due to dangerous or careless driving and s proper investigation is done, computers checked etc then your posts showing your attitude about speeding could be used as evidence against you. You might think it's far fetched but it has been done before.

Plus the "its my car I will drive as I want despite the law of the land and other people" attitude is appalling.

^^^ fook that burn rubber dude.

Hey shippers!!! Too right, ive not bought a vrs to drive sensibly all the time. If I wanted to drive around like a oap I would have bought a yeti!! Haha

Christ it makes me die some the holier than thou clap trap that starts being fired at people when they admit to breaking the national speed limit.

At the end of the day most cars on the road can bust 100mph easily and anyone who suggests they never have done so on a public road at some point in their time driving in the UK is almost certainly lying or in some sort of morally induced denial.

Im sure the OP is under no illusion that its fine to do this and its of course illegal under UK law and its not big or clever. I say help the guy if you can or ignore the post dont turn it into some sort of speeding sermon nobody really needs to hear it.
