I posted recently asking about the virtues of buying the Octavia Diesel DSG and was grateful for the advice I got. I have not bought yet and I am in no hurry but hey, I never thought that a good one would be so difficult to source. Living in Lincolnshire as I do does limit my options. By that I mean I used to live in Yorkshire near Bradford/Leeds and there were many more dealers close to hand....Anyway there is a 1.9 Tdi DSG Ambiente on a 2008 plate and not too far from me. It is a 1 owner with only 22,000 on clock with full franchise service history. They are asking £8,000 and as my budget is £7,000 they would need to come closer to that . How does the 1.9 DSG combo drive? I am an old guy so steady progress and reliability are the priorities, also how do the figures sound? Is it worth a punt?

I'd say that, from the needs you describe, it would be the ideal car for you.

Parkers say £7000 at average mileage for a franchised dealer. You should be able to get close to your budget.

If not, walk away. I'd pay £7k max!
