SOT-976 harness will not fit behind my Stream MP3, Help!

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've just got myself a 58 plate Octavia vRS and I'm trying to fit a Parrot MKi9100 to the Stream MP3 unit.

I managed to get everything connected up and working properly but.. I then spent about 2.5 hours trying to put the head unit back in.

I think the problem is the largest square clips that adjoin the SOT to the original harness, I can't fit it down behind the climate control unit or to either side. So when I try to push the HU back in it sticks out about 1cm too far.

This is driving me crazy, I nearly put my foot to it and pushed I was going so crazy last night. I ended up taking it back out so I could drive to work today.

Has anyone else managed this? I'm currently thinking I might need to cut some of the plastic frame that the HU fits into just so I can get the cables all pushed through.

Please please help before I brake my dash to pieces!

Thanks. Ben

Remove the top storage/vent box and look in from above. You should be able to get much better access to the surrounding area to see if you can manipulate the unit while you're pushing the headunit back in.

it's very simple to remove, just get a trim removal tool/plastic ruler under the bottom edge and prise it straight up, it'll be pretty stiff if you've not removed it before. The cable attached to the hazard light switch should be long enough for you to rest the box on the dash, but if you wanted to disconnect the hazard switch, push it out from behind and then unclip it.

Yes, removing the vents/storage box will help. It is a tight fit though. Also the dash around the vents has lots of sharp edges, so watch your knuckles.

You can also remove the HVAC controls (4 torx screws). The unit it only an inch or so deep, plenty of room for cables down there ;)

Theres a big open space on the loom/plug side nearest to the glovebox. Can it not be put down there at all?
