Scary moment - EPC light on 1.2 Petrol engined DSG Yeti

Featured Replies

Just as I was telling my neighbour how much I loved Hetty the Yeti she decided to misbehave !

There I was waiting to set off on a busy A30 roundabout when PING and the EPC light came on - not having totally memorised the Owners Manual and having a less than 3 month old Yeti I wasn't exactly expecting to have to know all the codes

I pressed the accelerator and she proceeded - just - at about 5 miles per hour around a busy roundabout with homeward bound holidaymakers giving me very strange looks.

I crawled down the dual carriageway until I could pull in at Morrison's Petrol Station - where I tried that much used computer problem solver - I turned the engine off - and on again :whew:

Not wanting to get stuck again in a busy Penzance I came home - seems fine, but it's going in to Truscotts in Helston on Monday to be checked as I want to be able to trust her !

Anyone else had this ?

Early production ones did this occasionally and usually fixed by a mod to the turbo plus ECU update. However a MY13 shouldn't be affected by this, as the engine has undergone a few updates since introduction in 09. Therefore it might be a dodgy sensor/connection or HT lead related, these being other favourites on this engine type.

Presume the sensor then puts the engine into "emergency mode" even if it's the sensor that's faulty !

Comical as I had just been trying to persuade my recently widowed neighbour to take a look at the Citigo as she's looking to downsize.

Hopefully the dealer will sort it on Monday

Yes that's correct; a safety feature for the car rather than considering the likely implications it may have on you the driver. Our previous early production Fabia TSI 85 decided to do this same thing but mid overtaking a HGV. Thankfully for us we were on a downhill road section and managed to use 'Newton' to get past the thing before diving into a farm entrance out of harms way :S

Poor Hetty - and she's only been with you for five minutes or so.

(You haven't been feeding her with oggie, have you :wonder:?)

Hetty is still a cub, she'll be fine I'm sure once she's been seen by the vet. Probably just teething.

New cars sometimes have the odd trouble, some more than others. I hope that once it's all sorted that you have a cracking journey with the Yeti.

Thanks for the replies - pleased that it doesn't seem to be a frequent problem.

No pasties have even travelled in in the shopping - strange when you visit Cornwall you always have pasties - when you live here - very rarely !

Hetty is sitting on the drive and I'd swear she's looking rather embarrassed.

I've not done a long trip yet - the trickiest one was taking some Australian friends along the North Coast Road from Lands End to St Ives, voted as one of the most scenic drives in the UK - not if you're driving it's not ! - narrow road with walls on either side & the odd open topped bus to contend with - not surprising that she's had a bit of a breakdown !

I'm off to the Isles of Scilly in 8 days so could have done without the messing about.

Hopefully she'll be sorted on Monday and I'll be able to get back to my last minute shopping

Just an update on Hetty's condition - she's sitting in the workshop at Truscotts, Helston, She was taken out for a 15 mile drive yesterday and didn't repeat the fault - Diagnostics showed that the engine was reduced to firing on two cylinders - but no explanation on why when I turned it off and on again it was fine - and has been fine ever since.

Skoda Technical are not keen for them to release the car back to me until they have found the fault, so here I am trying to get ready for holidays with no car - they phoned me this morning and offered to bring a courtesy car out to the house, but sadly not an automatic and I've driven nothing else for 12 years, so I had to decline. You don't need a car to iron and pack !

Not sure where we go from here if it won't re-produce the EPC problem

Just to hopefully finish this -I've collected Hetty this afternoon, they have replaced the Ignition Coil Pack - since the only problem they could find was a misfire - although they still cannot explain why it was fine after turning the engine off and on again.

Since I wish to book her in to have the Cigarette lighter re-wired to go off with the ignition, they have asked me to do this soon after my holiday so that they can check her over again !

The mechanics have driven over 20 miles - not a problem at all - think they were just enjoying a drive on a lovely day with the sunroof wide open !

Hopefully this will be the end of it
