Fabia VRs 1.4TSI remap story - Love Revo

Featured Replies

JKM in portsmouth did a re-tuning using a Revo map friday. I`ve owned the car from new and had it chipped by C***** Tuning on my drive. Since then ive had 36 serious engine protection faults, Engine alerts and unsmooth power. The comments were it will get better, not. Full power from 1st to 2nd included a headbutting the steering wheel moment. The car surged constantly and was not fast.

After testing the car today I can say without question that the car is smoother, faster and overall acting like a different car. I`m now not scared to engage full power without the threat of some error from the car. The Car is both faster and smoother than anything i could have hoped for.

Thanks you JKM and Revo.

That is good to hear.

I hope that all is well now.

Had Skoda done an ECU update on your car already to get it running as it should have been,

& have you checked the spark plugs before having the re-map done?

(there have been quite a few members cars with Spark Plugs failing

and a few members that required to have REVO maps removed from their cars after encountering various problems.)

Did the installer inform you about the REVO technical advice before doing the deed.?

As long as you are fine with having no Manufacturers Warranty now on the Twincharger.

Is it a CAVE or CTHE engine in your car?

(CTHE came late 2012)

The car car was mapped from new after 1,000 ish miles and only had problems when you pushed it hard. This would result in engine light flashing and a few engine protection shutdowns.

The people at JKM did a full download and print out of all error messages from the car before flashing back to standard, testing and remapping. There was no new engine light flashing or engine protection shutdowns so we did the remapping.

The car has now done 36,000 miles since new Dec11 so i believe i have CAVE not CTHE, how do i check which version?

I`m fine with warranty i.e. deep pockets. I got a really good deal on the car new but in hindsight wish i had ordered a full power car from the factory. Will learn next time.

The error messages on the previous map included

2940 - Turbo Charger Boost system

4054/60/63/57 - missfire on most cylinders

7960 - cylinder disabling

It will be a CAVE engine since the CTHE did not get fitted till later 2012.

The 'CAVE' is in your V5,

& one the sticker at the drivers side of the engine/bar code, on the sticker in the boot, on the VIN etc.

(the CTHE engines have a different looking ECU externally from that on a CAVE unit, and is on all the different stickers and VIN.)

The original service schedule for your car is for spark plug changed at 40,000 miles,

but some are failing before 20,000 miles.

If you have not had new Plugs fitted, i would get the ones in checked,

(I would hope that the re-mapper had already done that before doing anything on the ECU/engine.)

and for such a little expense, you are as well putting new plugs in while the coils are removed.

What do you mean by 'Full power car from the factory',?

there were no options on anything more than 178bhp from Skoda.

Do you mean a re-map done by the supplying Dealer after delivery from the factory?

Do you always run it on 98 or 99 ron petrol?

Has the Air Filter been looked at to see if it needs replaced,

or are you running some replacement Filter or intake?

thanks for the info on CAVE. I will check the plugs at the next opportunity. I always run on Shell Ultima so 98 ron. I didn’t bother doing any alterations to the intake and filter is good.

When i bought the car from sparshats in Fareham i spoke about chipping the car, they showed me an option for £1,200 for having it delivered from Skoda on full power, Equivalent to chipping type power they said. He offered me a good deal on a showroom model and i needed a car within a week not months. so i went that way instead.

I don’t think i was dreaming, it’s not in the main options you can choose but was definitely an option on their computer.

The £1200 option isn't from Skoda as it would void the Skoda UK warranty. All the dealer would be doing is getting the remap done themselves and making money on it, possibly telling you the car would keep its warranty intact also. I know of a couple of people that have had big issues with REVO on that engine under load so you've done well there. :)

Next time you see that Salesperson ask him to run through all that again.

Then ask them to write it down, use the dealers stamp and sign it.

Sounds like total BS.

Often you know when a Salesperson is telling porkies, their lips move.

In the UK, 'Shell V Power' or Shell V Power Nitro Plus is 99 ron. as is 'Tesco Momentum 99'

Maybe 'BP Ultimate' is 98 Ron, never used it though.

their lips move :-).

I feel a bit nervous about this remap now :-(. So i`m using 99 ron.

I`ll report back after another few months and 10,000 miles or so :-)

If the car runs good, then thats fine.

Just best to run it with the correct new spark plugs set at the correct gap.

Any mis-fires etc then get it back to a Standard MAP before you have any further problems.

I read about this on JKMs FB page.

Whilst im not a fan of REVO software, I am a fan of JKM. You couldnt ask for a better outfit to look after your car.

As for your previous company "C***** Tuning". IMO you should name and shame them before someone else is duped into buying a map and going through the same issues.

Regarding fueling you can use various grades of fuel provided you switch your map to the correct setup. The bonus with a REVO or APR remap is that you can switch them. (APR via the cruise control stalk and REVO via their SPS device.)

The SPS switch (you might have to buy one they are around £125 http://www.revotechnik.com/sps/) allows you to switch between 3 settings iirc. Setting A - Stock equivalent performance (Still a REVO map though), Setting B - 95 Ron Fuel. Setting Setting C - 99 Ron fuel.

From the clue I'd say Celtic tuning??

I think I seen it on Revo's Facebook too but they blanked the said tuner with *** which to me was meant to look like another tuning company with 3 letters

Naughty revo lol

I got a Celtic tuning map on my mk1 Vrs as did my brother in his 1.9 tdi Octy. Mine seemed ok but had it changed after I had the hybrid fitted. My brother had his map for 3+ years and has recently changed to a shark map.

The Celtic map was based on an automatic and they upped the injectors by dangerous amounts.
