rough running engine - please help

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I am unsure how to explain this but whilst driving in any gear I feel the car pulling back, with a vibration feeleing.

The tyres seem on and not bumpy if moving with engine turned off.

When serviced it seems ok for a short while then appears.

I'm very worried what is wrong with it.

I have explained to garage but they don't find a problem but when you drive it 12 hours a day you just know its not right.

Superb 11 2.0 170k 10plate.

Just had camb belts changed.

Please help

I don't know how tight these engines are (piston to valves)...if there is enough room in there, your timing could be out by a tooth...assuming the problem was not present before the cam belt change?

I have just had the cam belt changed at a main dealer. But my engine is the older PD unit.

I think I am suffering the same symptoms as you, but much more mild.

On the PD, there is an adjustment between the cam pulley and the camshaft itself, known as a 'torsion' adjustment.

The Skoda spec for mine is from +6 to -6 (units unknown to me, but shown on VAG diags or VCDS as a timing measurement in the relevant box), but the forums suggest that this is too great a margin, and to aim for zero if you can.

On the PD this is an quick adjustment to check (if you have VCDS - I don't), and causes no damage if left unadjusted, according to other (mostly American) websites. But their engines didn't have DPF's of course.

The symptoms they list are a 'rocking horse' vibration at tickover (sometimes), and the car being harder to start (sometimes).

Maybe your CR has the same adjustment?

One American chappie took three years to get this fault fixed by his dealers on his PD Golf (or Jetta - can't remember which). They didn't seem to know about this adjustment.

I think I Google'd 'Vibration after cambelt change VW' to find the above.

I haven't taken it up with the dealer yet.

Cheers,

Mike.
