Howdy folks. Another new bloke.

Hi everyone. Recently bought a 2001 fabia elegance 100 pd with 113k. Spent a fair bit of time on here searching for fixes for the various niggles it has had, so only thought it right I should sign up and share some of my fixes and findings as I work through them.

So far I have removed and stripped the vnt part of the turbo, as it was carboned up and sticking. I did try the mr muscle method, but as the car was sat on the drive for a couple of weeks prior to changeover, and being a simple turbo to remove, I decided to pull it apart and see what was going on in there. Nice and straightforward to strip,(once the turbine housing eventually freed off!) and very satisfying/cheap to clean, lube and refit, instead of fitting new or recon. Also just fitted a new cambelt and metal impeller water pump. Fitted new front anti roll bar bushes and drop links. Its had a tough life as a driving school car, so is pretty tired in some areas. Check straps and latches are, erm, loose, to say the least. They are on the list of 'as and whens'. I did a temporary repair to the 'door open' micro switch in the drivers latch, which has held up ok so far. After getting it mechanically up together, I decided to go for a re-map. What a difference. I went for a Black code, as a mate of mine installs these. Its been as good as gold, and I am very impressed. To be honest, lots of mates have had their diesels re-mapped by various different companies, and I rarely hear of any bad experiences, other than it highlighting issues that were already present on their vehicles. It is the 140bhp map with an extra 100 ish nm of torque. Those figures are approximate, as I'm sure most of you are aware, there are plenty of factors that can affect bhp and torque. All I know is it goes very well and is now going to need the sloppy old suspension, and warped brakes freshening up a bit to stop me ending up in a ditch when I get a bit carried away! Fuel economy on a steady run is around 57mpg. If I tank it about it wont drop below 40. I've seen 60mpg on the display when driving annoyingly slow over 20 miles, just so I could show off to my petrol friends.

Anyway, I think I've wittered on enough for now. Thanks everyone for the advice on here. Its been great for getting to the root of any issues without too much messing about. Much appreciated.

Jason.
