Air con not working after regas

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I wonder if anyone can help me in solving a problem with my air con.

The system was working fine, and had been since I bought the car in 2011, although the air con was working it wasn't as cold as it could be. So since summer is approaching I decided to have the system regassed at the local F1 autocentre.

After the regas the air con worked for about a week then all it did was to blow warm air through the system when selected to LO, I took it back to the autocentre and they had a look at it, the report was as follows:

5 bar in the high & low side of the system

A scan confirmed the compressor is working at 1000rpm

However there is no compression of the gas in the system.

I am assured that there are no system leaks and that there is gas in the system.

Has anyone come across this before or can shed any light on to why this might be happeneing?

Thanks in advance

Doesn't add up, if the compressor is compressing then why no pressure? Perhaps it does have a leak and they just can't find it. Mine went in cos it wasn't working, nitrogen gas with UV dye found the leak in the condenser. It is a very common fault apparently, Skoda replaced the condenser with a different model.

Sounds like a knackered compressor to me, I have posted some details of what to check with VCDS which will tell you what's going on.

I agree, 5 bar on both sides isn't right if the compressor is running, not much compression happening there!

Hi I too had no a/con had had to have a new compresser fitted under warranty

VCDS can report the Compressor spinning when its not. Mine was siezed and the nut was not spinning yet VCDS showed it as turning. If the target and actual are exactly the same I think that is a sign that its actually broken.

If you got those figures (the last three just have to be around about the same) then the compressor is knackered.

If the compressor has broken internally the system must be flushed and a new drier fitted.

I started a thread in the VCDS/diagnostics forum which has what to check with VCDS posted by tech1e.
