The budget coilover thread (for vRS)

Featured Replies

I'm looking at fitting budget coilovers to my vRS, I want low (but not sump splittingly low), ride quality not high on the list but price is strictly £200-230. In that budget, the options are limited so you're never going to get some dampers that ride like Aladdin's Carpet are you? I've had a car with FK AK Streets on before (a Focus Mk1) and the ride on that was perfectly acceptable, so I know what budget coilovers are like.

DPM says they are out of stock of Prosports (£199) and I can't see anywhere else stocking them, but their ebay page has them for £179. JOM's are an option but I've seen them listed as fitting the vRS, then some saying they don't (mssing the droplink mount, so really for the lower models), so is anyone certain if they do or not?

I know I need Merc Vito 638 droplinks to clear the driveshaft, its just finding the coilovers that is giving me a headache!

Edit - Apparently Alhambra/Sharan/Galaxy droplinks fit too, at 205mm its about 5cm shorter than VItos, but are around £12 a pair. Anyone tried them?

Wait for DPM to get the Prosports back in stock?!

And Vito drop links are only around £12-13 a pair so might as well go with what you know works :)

Jom are rubbish if u ask me. Know a couple of people who had them on mk4 golfs and had they didnt last long at all before a shock bust

I've got joms on my fabia and must of done well over 10k on them and they are fine. They come with a 2 year warranty anyway I think,

im not convinced by the vito drop links as the standard ones have a m12 thread and the vito ones have m10 so it will be a loose fit in the hole. however i think im going down the more expensive route of adjustable drop links with pro sport coilovers. however im concerned about all the stories of tyre rubbing the coilover body and people needing spacers, is this correct? as im only running 205/50/17 tyres

The ones you see for £179.00 in our eBay store aren't for the VRS.

I think scrubbing depends entirely on how low you go, from what I've read providing you don't go too low, you will be fine.

Few members on here have prosports and seem to enjoy them, for the price you cannot complain.

Id look at the FK highsports for £385 on DPM- FYI Venom Motorsports do them for £354 and by the looks of the pictures they come with droplinks.

Im stuck between the 2 aswell - Wait for the prosports or invest in some FK's

Could be wrong but I'm pretty sure DPM price match..

They do!

you wont need spacers and vito links fit fine bud

The vito drop links are fine as even the vrs drop links are loose fit through the strut. As the drop links are bolted up tight so no issues.

Also you will not get adjustable drop links for the vrs. The only adjustable drop links are for different set up where drop link fits from wishbone to ARB instead of strut to ARB on vrs.

Tyre rubbng is only found on 225 tyre on 17" std wheel when car in lowered considerably.

What about the mk2 vrs drop links? Do they attach to wishbone? As i found them in adjustable format

This is a discussion in the MK1 forum where the MK1 VRS has same set up as Audi TT/S3, LCR, Golf R32 where has a drop link attached between ARB and suspension strut. Their is no need to have an adjustable drop link for this set up (Apart from the stupid Pro sports, which have drop link mount in completely the wrong place). And Vito ones are used to deal with that.

Typically the only need for adjustable drop links is for car where have the wishbone to ARB fitment because the drive shaft comes into play on these cars when lowered significantly. This is not the issue for the VRS

As for the MK 2 VRS, not too familiar with that set up but still believe the same type of fitment is adopted where ARB to strut approach.

Only ones I have seen for MK 2 VRS are custom made ones.
