flat spot when pulling away

Featured Replies

Hi I seem to have a flat spot when pulling away from a standing start .I pull away and it often stalls and if i give it a few more revs the front wheels spin .This causes big problems when i am towing my caravan. Its fine once i have pulled away.

Any advice will be very much appreciated

You probably should say what engine and gearbox you have if you want useful feedback :)

Slow to respond EGR valve?  When you put load on the engine it should start closing, but if it delayed/sticky then the airflow increase will be very slow and hence the fuel going into the engine will be restricted.  Hence increased tendencies to stall.  Either get it cleaned well or get it mapped out and manually blanked off.

thanks for that is it easy to get at and clean

will it not show up as a fault if its blanked off? what are the advantages of having it blanked off? thanks.

Check the small hose that runs from the egr to the back of the engine, these rub through and also there are some to the air filter housing, check these are good as one cuts the turbo out if it's not 100%

Also when did you last replace the fuel and air filters?

If you do need a derv filter don't throw the plastic collar away from the old one it's essential unless you want problems later.
