Save Mallory Park

Featured Replies

That's a laugh. All the NIMBYs will be moaning about the housing develpers and the 'in-comers' instead.  They should get a life and wake up to the fact that the circuit brings in people. Those people usually spend money and I'm sure that must be a useful thing in these straightened times.  Or are they a bunch of loaded whingebags?  They should find a way to profit from the venues increased popularity rather than drive it away.

TBH the BARC have brought this on themselves.

There has been an agreement in place with the LA for 30 years that Mallory would operate 90 odd days per year, and everybody locally was happy with this for years.

Then when the BARC bought the circuit a few years ago, they immediately claimed that running only 90 days a year meant they couldn't make a profit, and proceeded to add extra days - e.g. another 40 midweek track days for starters.

Fact is Mallory is mainly used by M/Cyles, both for track days and race meetings, and brings very little into the local economy.

The new owners got greedy, broke a long standing planning agreement and royally p*ssed off the locals.

For years the council had turned a blind eye to the breaches of planning permission, but after loads of complaints started to enforce the number of days allowed.

BARC responded by threatening to shut down and sell the site for redevelopment (presumably forgetting that they have also p*ssed off the LA who will be considering the application.)

The so called NIMBY's are on the whole people who have lived with the circuit for 50 years, not a bunch of incomers.

It isn't about noise levels, traffic etc. etc. but about the frequency of the use of the circuit.

This whole problem was caused by BARC breaking the long established planning permission, then making threats about what would happen to the site if they didn't get their own way.

(I'm not associated with Mallory or the protesters in any way, other than I raced bikes there years ago and my son and his family all live in Earl Shilton, so we've been following the saga)

+1^^^^ the owners knew what the rules were when they bought mallory, so why should the locals have their lives ruined so some suits can make some money. If they've got their business plan wrong then tough. There's alot better tracks in England, in fact there probably arn't many that are worse IMO. Give me Cadwell park any day

It is a tad strange going into mallory, you drive straight up the middle of a paved housing estate to get into it.

I would imagine most people will be out at work during the week and the hours they are operating, 92 days out of 365 seems a little pointless to me,

I've signed it as i have done a 15min track session and quiet enjoyed it altho my vrs is a tad cumbersum for it

I seem to be having a blinder of a day for p^ssing people off!!  I'm putting it down to the hot weather!!  :giggle:

This will teach me for typing without first having all the facts to hand, but I will stand by my comment on developing the facilities so that all the community can benefit.  If the BARC just want it all their own way I can see how it would annoy an alienate the locals.

My reference to in-comers was in regard to the site being closed and houses built instead.  The said new inhabitants would be the in-comers!! I've seen how it can be in some of the villages in Saddleworth.  If you're only a 3rd generation inhabitant you are still an in-comer!!!
