Front hub nut size?

Featured Replies

I have a 2002 Skoda Fabia 1.4mpi. I've bought a 36mm bi-hex socket but the walls of the socket were too thick that I couldn't reach the hub nut. I would then have to find a thinner wall socket but I would like to make sure whether the hub nut is actually a 36mm nut. Could anybody please let me know whether it is a definite 36mm bi-hex socket? :) Thank you

yes it is 36mm, find someone with a lathe and take a mm off it and all is well, I couldn't fine one that would fit without machining down first.

possibly a really cheapo chrome one might fit in there if you can find a single one..

As covered in the tool guide yes it's 36mm. The genuine special tool isn't that expensive and is available from any VAG dealer.

Thanks for your advice mate. I just don't understand why they don't have a proper fit socket for this blithering nut. Did you start off with a thin wall 36mm" bi-hex socket? Thank you.

That would cost a fortune mate, those VAG dealer tools. Cheers

I've got a couple of the vag dealer tools and they arnt all that expensive.

As said though, I have a halfords 36mm socket and just ground the edges down with a grinding wheel.

Ok . I will inform all you guys how it goes tomorrow. Many thanks.

I paid less than £10 for the genuine socket.

I'll go down to the dealer tomorrow and check. Hope that they got one. If they don't can you sell yours to me? I don't mind if you make a profit.

It was a "Laser Tools" impact quality one that I bought years ago, just fits neatly. You might find that some cheap sockets have thicker walls to make up for the quality of the material used - ie make it strong enough. By the way, the OD of my 36mm impact quality Laser Tools (deep)socket is 51mm - which was okay for both sides of my wife's 2003MY Polo 9N.

i bought one from Machinemart  a 36 mm  hex socket but it didn't  fit. The walls of the socket  was too thick. Went down to Halfords n didn't have it as well..  I will go down to VAG tomorrow n check . Skoda sure is a pain the butt. My last resort would be Ebay as suppose but as you know they claim everything fits.

Any tips on idling. Slight wobble on rpm when idle. Drives fine though.. Cleaned throttle , temperature sender changed, Checked hoses for leaks ,. Not done is change of plugs. Surely the plugs do not effect the idling. I dont think the car was manufactured that way. Who would want to buy a brand new car from a showroom with the rpm like that. Read in some of the forums the engine was designed that way. Very strange. Any ideas n tips.  Cheers

Idle wobble is nature of the beast and quite normal.

Timing chain replacement can improve it but it is what it is.

Yea, there is some noise from the timing chain. I'll try and do it and will inform you. How about the oxygen sensor and all that. Another thing is the timing chain, is it true that the new timing chain timing marks is out by one tooth or something? I read this on another forum. I planned to buy the parts from the Skoda dealer by the way.
