Stick it on Auto and use the blue and red buttons to select a desired internal temperature. If you set it to 19c, then the fans will speed up to full speed until 19c is reached and then slow down and speed up as necessary once that temperature is reached. At the same time, the air flaps will divert the cool air to different parts of the interior.

Either put it on Auto and control temp or press ECON so the icon disappears and AC is also then switched on.

when the engine running and AC is on check if the radiator fans are turning, if not then it will not get cooler. check fuses on top of the battery

I thought Econ mode was AC off?

If its AUTO or shows NOTHING (as you twiddled with the fans) its ON.

If its ECON its blowers only.

As said, the fans are a key to show things are at least operating in that area - the engine idle also will switch increase.
