What's this sound?

Featured Replies

A while back, I heard a noise that sounded likening chased by sleigh bells.

I heard it again yesterday, but only at about 68mph. I noticed it as I passed lorries and wound the windows down. It is more of a screeching squeek. In my non mechanical way, I would guess at a wheel bearing, but when I increase the speed, it stops after 73mph.

It is also intermittent in that it may happen for 10 mins and then not for another month.

Is my bearing going or is it something else? Sounds like passenger side rear. Any checks I can do?

got worse on way to work, dropped in at garage. bearings fine, but the rear brakes were worn through the pads and grinding metal. he shown me one when it was all off and you could see the studs where it was so worn down. I have heard people say it was just metal and not believed them, but this was no pad whatsoever, just shiny metal. not sure why it would squeel when the brakes were not pressed, but it has cured it!
