  I can't take on another car to keep for myself, but I'm happy to repair your car for you for cheaper than garage rates. I do know my way round these dear old heaps and I have EVERYTHING you're likely to need in stock.

Though I must add, I'm on holiday from this Friday till August 6th.

Thanks-could do with a trailer!

Rob, how do you know those?

Bill Hunt from Skoda GB lived near Ely, and our local Skoda dealer was also a distributor, so got a lot of the Press cars and specials for sale. D880FYE was the Estelle 130L Sport from the 86 Motorshow, and ended up living near me in Peterborough, and the late Sir Peter Titterton- (Mr.Skoda GB himself) turned up at our local dealers open evening in D879FYE, the black 130 Rapid cabriolet, back in 1987.

We also had E833OEX, the white motor show 130 Rapid Sport live close by too. John Shelleys 130 LR Group B was also at the local dealers.

Well here we are 10 days after dropping the Rapid off-absolutely nothing was done to it so I have now brought it back home :wall:

I was hoping to have it fixed for the mega-meet but it is sat there awaiting a head gasket and maybe a head skim/replacement head.

My five year old is disappointed to say the least.

If anyone can think of a solution to this or has been actively looking for a nice Rapid to work on themselves and can catch me in my current mood, please message and I'll phone you.

Damn, damn, DAMN :@

T'is but a minor set back, ok you won't make it to the national this Sunday, but you've done the hard work to get hold of a Rapid. Find yourself a local independent garage, no need for main dealer for this, the young lads in the service department probably won't have ever seen a rear engined Skoda. Dave can sort you with a head gasket or see www.skoparts-international.com.

Keep in there with the faith in these old timers!

A head gasket change is a 2 hour job.....I don't know of any car that's easier.....if it needs a skim somewhere will do it for £50. You really should stay calm, this is minor stuff.....I've built 5 engines for mine in the last 4 years, had a major and 2 minor accidents, destroyed a set of king pins and wasted enough money to finance a small country in that time. It's not a modern car, it needs patience and perseverance but they can be very reliable.....just don't decide to go racing!

Thanks for replies, everyone.  I see the point, but I'm properly fed up with mending at the moment (it is all I ever do), hence why it went in to be done.  I was happy to pay a bill just to get to the show in it.

It's school holidays, I have 2 kids under 5, plus extended family staying here, no chance of a holiday, 4 temperamental vehicles (had to sort the one that caught fire this week), I run my own busy (body repair) business with no staff and it is accountant time right now, plus keep an old house together etc.

I'm overloaded and just wanted a bit of a reminder of my teenage days in a Rapid.  I would rather it worked or went, the joy of going to the meet has been lost now and I'm fed up tbh-lost two weeks messing about and the hours towing it there and back took every second of my free time.

I have had 183 cars and have just lost patience for now.

You know it's a problem when you start to fantasise about a black bumpered Dacia Sandero with a WARRANTY  :(

I'm going to abandon at the Parents' house it for a while and see what occurs.  There's other stuff way up the mending queue...

yea but this one has been pretty cooked, by my quick look over it, I would say maybe even cooked the rings as she smelt 2stroke'y , wouldn't be happy without at least resetting the liners to be fair.

we have been very busy at the workshop and have just finished monday's work this afternoon, no definite time frame was given for the engine work and it is not a job to be rushed as you now.

As mender is still not fixing it "just abandoning it for a while" I don't quite get why he was in such a rush to tow it away from us really as it would have been done next week probly  :| .

will make a nice motor once the engine and a few other bits are done

Evening Rob.

It was Bill Hunt who arranged for me to buy my Rapid. I had been working with Stuart Walsh on the RAC Rally from Bath that year, doing food and goffer. He knew I was looking for a new car and as Stuart's was due for replacement it was "booked" to me under the Staff Purchase scheme.

I also met Peter quite a few times as I worked with the works Rally Team for about 3 years.

Thanks, yes she will be nice sooner or later

My main point was to get to the show with my son and another Skoda friend as a rare boy's day out amongst a mad month and I had thought 2 weeks was long enough to get it sorted at a price I could justify, but the time ran out and price escalated.

It's a toy and I have to prioritise commitments, unfortunately-it's not gone down well that I own it, let alone spend money on it.  The mega-meet involved the family and was a small justification for having it.

My worry is that it'll be torn down and then the bill will ever increase-as I've missed the meet, I can spend however long it takes to do it as cheaply as possible when I have time.
