No air con!

Featured Replies

My air con on the mk2 Octavia has packed in. VCDS comes back with the following

Address 08: Auto HVAC        Labels: 1K0-820-047.lbl
   Part No: 1Z0 820 047 D
   Component: Climatic PQ35   010 0301
   Shop #: WSC 00000 000 00000
   VCID: 346C019F578C7BB8F43

1 Fault Found:
00229 - Refrigerant Pressure
            002 - Lower Limit Exceeded

I checked the compressor volts in VCDS which both specified and actual voltage read zero.

Any ideas?

Needs a re-gas and possibly a leak fixing.

Same problem in mine :( think I need re-gassing

I've read that if there is a fault like the low pressure fault then the ECU won't allow the air con to work at all. Not sure if this is true but hopefully a re-gas will fix it.

It is true, if the pressure is too low then the compressor does not engage so as to prevent the pump running dry.

Somewhere like (dare I say it) Kwik Fit will check your system for leaks, if it is good to refill they will for £50 if it leaks you can drive away without paying a penny until you get the leak fixed.

Well I got the system checked for leaks and regassed. Air con would still not work so he tried to erase the above fault but it wouldn't delete. I went away with a full charge but turned back when I heard a hissing from the pressure sensor (the one which is giving the fault code).

The Garage recovered the remaining gas and I went away. Later I decided to take a look at the sensor, I couldn't remove it due to the space restrictions but there was air con oil in the electrical socket, so I presume the gas is escaping through the plug. I'll get a replacement and try get the old one out.

New sensor fitted and re-gassed, all fixed!
