Just got my Octavia 1.9tdi glx and at the moment I am not sure about it. I like the look of the car and the size of if but a few problems have come to my attention. In the  first week my door release cable broke and a few days later the back window regulator packed in and the window fell inside the door. The most annoying is the gear change it is really hard to get in first gear and I have  problems downshiftng also when the car has been running a while. The clutch feels fine. The car  has only done 116,000 miles and has  a really good  service history. I have looked on on here and members seem to say about changing the gearbox oil and adjust the gear linkage does anyone have any good advice on how to do the gear linkage as  the set up looks different on a mk 1 to later models.

Not sure, but I watched the video on this forum "private video" and the set up on the car is different to that. How can you tell the difference?

Do you think this sounds like a gearbox oil issue? I am going to change the oil in a few weeks when I have time. What would be the best quality stuff to put in.

I used genuine gearbox oil, part No.G 060 726 A2.

Thanks for the oil advice, do you think an oil change would make any difference?

Probably not TBH, I'd say more adjustment or clutch issue, unfortunately i'm far from a car expert so hopefully Tech1e will recognise your gearbox and say it's easy for you to adjust yourself.
