Superb Mk2 (2013) plate - stone chip bonnet protection film

Featured Replies

Has anyone got any knowledge of a product which can be applied to the leading bonnet edge of a Superb to help protect it from stone chips. Tried dealership but service dept say there's nothing available other than a respray when it becomes too bad. I was hoping to avoid the respray option by making sure my new Superb was semi protected in advance.

I did look at a 3M product called Ventureshield, but couldn't find anyone in Scotland who could supply and fit.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Yes 3M ventureshield is what you need. It's not invisible as some people make out but is effective against most damage. You can do it yourself if you are patient and use plenty of water and car shampoo mix. If you don't have any local specialists, you could also try vehicle signage companies, as most of them are used to applying vinyl sign wraps. 3M is similar enough for them to be comfortable in doing this and its easy to buy it off the Internet.

Cheers

Steve

I've used Ventureshield before and as long as you make sure the surface is very clean and you take your time its a easy DIY job. You just need two sprays one with clean water in and one with soapy  water in, If you line it up wrong just spray a little clean water and you can peel it off and start again. I always put it on the top of the back bumper. Have a search on youtube lots of videos showing you how to do it.

That will always look bad, better to let it chip and re-spray eventually, using a very good quality polish helps stop the chipping so I'd suggest that before plastic film that will go yellow and cause a sun fade stripe when you remove it.

Lol, how exactly?

You have to build it up in layers and keep it regularly topped up,

You will probably find some more in depth info over on Detailing World, it may not stop all chipping but it does help make a barrier that deflects the stones etc rather than them getting a full bite out of the paint.

No offence, chap, but I think I'd sooner rely on what Polished Bliss have to say:

No last step products (sealants or waxes) that we know of offer any protection whatsoever against stone chips; the final thickness of the protective coating (even when heavily layered) is always much less than a micron thick, and high speed impacts with stones and other road debris penetrate this easily. Your only option for added protection against such damage is to have a clear film covering such as Armourfend or Ventureshield fitted. These vinyl films are several hundred microns thick and protect against stone chip damage fairly well, but their aesthetic qualities are typically poor in terms of reflectivity and clarity, and they are expensive to fit. Our solution has always been to allow stone chips to accumulate over time and have the affected panels resprayed every 18 - 24 months. This is no more costly than having a clear film fitted, and looks far nicer in terms of the aesthetics of the finish.

No problem just giving you alternatives,

I just know what those strips look like once they've been on a few months and it will ruin the look of the car imo.
