Will oil ruin my clutch?

Featured Replies

Hi folks, great forum.... I've been keeping a close eye on it for ages.... I now have the need for some advice please...

I have a 2008 superb 1.9 tdi 115, clutch was done at 170,00 mls, but is now slipping, mainly on motorway, when given some power.... Now at 213,000 mls and its been doing it for a few thousand..... I have an oil leak that hardly leaves much on my drive, but I have to top up fairly regularly..... Could this be the reason for my clutch slipping? Thankyou.... Alan.

I had terrible clutch slip on my previous Seat Ibiza PD130.

I blamed a particularly spiky plug & play remap for cooking the clutch.

Took it to my tame mechanic for a diagnosis and replacemetn cost, but he instead pointed the finger at the fact I'd "topped up" the oil the week before and put in about a litre too much!

We unscrewed the sump plug drained off the excess and the car ran like a dream after that with no hint of clutch slip ever again.

Thanks pastyboy, but I'm sure my oil level has been fine..... I'm starting to wonder if the EGR valve could make the revs go up as if the clutch was slipping..... Does anybody know if this is possible.... Thankyou, Alan.
