Door hinge question

Featured Replies

The front of the driver's door on my Octy estate is almost 0.5cm too far in, due to a side smash that has presumably squashed where the hinge attaches to the door or the frame.

The panel beaters have fixed all damage apart from this. They suggested taking the door off and putting a shim under the frame part of the hinge to add the 0.5cm. I took the door off (unscrewing the two T45 bolts from the door) but not only are the T45 bolts that attach the hinge to the frame very stiff, but also the frame part of each hinge seems to have a bolt entering from the inside of the car. Removing that would be very tricky without major dismantling, unless one can just unscrew the hinge (like a nut) once the accessible bolt is removed. See other photo below. Advice please... or maybe I should just leave things as they are. No leak noticed around the door despite the heavy rain, but have not been on the motorway. Door slightly difficult to close, and jerks out on opening, so not sitting very happily as it is.
