Witness app

Featured Replies

I've just downloaded the witness app onto my iphone and it uses GPS my question is, does it use my data on phone therefore costing me ? This app doesn't like the GPS being switched off

GPS is done direct between the satellites and your phone - no internet connection required. It'll just run your battery down faster! Sat-nav apps might use your data connection for downloading maps (like Google Navigation), but a camera app shouldn't

Problem it uses google maps and apparently it costs ?

Is that when you play the video back on a laptop? The BlackVue does that, using the GPS log of the route, but that's different to recording. I presume you can't be watching your phone at the same time!

The witness app uses the google map as the GPS and when you set speed the screen goes black or shows your location as a map , are you sure this app won't use my data ? I may be better off buying a cheap DVr for the car rather than using iphone ?

I'm sure there have been others here who've used Witness. I can't see it *having* to use a data connection just to record, but that's just my assumption.

I prefer a dedicated device, otherwise I could guarantee the first time I forgot to set up the phone would be the time I needed it.

No it will record without GPS just displays searching for GPS when I switch location services off , also the screen stays on when I don't use the GPS because it switches screen off when speed is reached , hence having the GPS on would be better ?
