Egr delete (wingnut mod) help

Featured Replies

I had a spare egr lying about so I said I would try do a delete on it as the one on the car is weeping from the vent holes.

So I cut out the plunger and filled the hole where it sits in and smoothed it down. I blocked the nipple on the top where the rubber hose goes.

Question time!!

Is it ready to fit now or do I need to do anything else??

Do I need to block the two vent holes to prevent it weeping?

Will the engine light stay on on the dash if I fit it?

Cheers

Sean

Why didn't you just blank it with plates instead of all of the above?

I ment instead of cutting the plunger and filling hole all. What's the benefit of doing this rather than a metal blanking plate on both egr and manifold

I'm just interested as this weekend I blanked off my egr and it only cost me £3 for two metal blanking plates.

where did you put the two plates?

Its suppose to allow better air flow.. but I doubt there is much benfit. I had an old egr and too much time on my hands!

Lol ah. Well I removed the pipe from exhaust manifold and put a plate on both the egr and exhaust manifold so both are closed off.

Why put one at each end of the pipe? Would one not have done the same? What did you do with the vac pipe on the top of the egr?

I didn't want pressure building up in the pipe between the egr and exhaust manifold as it can cause pipe to leak. I have left all the pipes connected as even if they open close there will be no exhaust gasses to enter system also my asv remains ect.

How hard is it to get the pipe off the manifold?

Once you remove egr valve the pipe will most likely have to come off anyways. So it's very easy

was that on a fabia?

Seat ibiza fr, however exactly the same engine ect so process will be exactly the same. Bit of a pig to get egr off thou. I had to remove one of the bolts which holds pipe to exhaust manifold to enable me to remove the 3rd bottom bolt under egr which holds egr in place.

Cheers. I have done it on a mk4 golf a few times but never on the fabia. I might tackle it later on!

If you done it on a Mk4 1.9tdi 130bhp it will be exactly the same on the vrs

It was a 150bhp one. The pipe going from the exhaust manifold to the egr looks longer on the vrs
