Having had a few Sporty cars in the past I was wondering what the consensus regarding replacement exhaust bits for a mk1 VRS is. The middle box with a resonator box in, is blowing only a tiny bit. Euro carparts don't stock vrs bits. It seems that my options are limited to dealer replacement parts or an exhaust from a specialist like Milltek. The rest of the exhaust is fine and I don't fancy blowing 300+ quid at the moment on a stainless exhaust. Does anybody know who will supply a replacement middle section at a reasonable cost.

Get a straight pipe welded in?

I got the middle box cut out and a 2 and a half inch pipe welded on its spot on and gives a little more sound out of the exhaust

TDI centre sections have no middle box and are a straight swap IIRC? Only around £30-40 too.

How about the baked bean can fix?

 

You need a 400(ish)g can of beans, 2 exhaust bandages and 2 Jubilee clips big enough to fit round the system.

 

Eat the beans, and take the ends off the can to get a piece of curved metal plate. Wrap that round the leak and secure with the Jubilee clips. Seal the ends off with the exhaust bandages.

That is what has been used. Must of been value beans though cos its blowing. Actually its the 90 deg bend from the back box to the centre pipe.

Diesel centre section bout £20. I paid £10 as in the trade. Can make the car sound a little tinny and raspy on the standard back box especially if hooked up with a decat as mine was. I put a resonated centre section back in as the raspiness was hideous.
