oil pump failure 140 bhp 2.0 diesel engines

Featured Replies

Needless to say this has happened to my 2009 Superb after 55K miles. I do not think it has the CR engine and from what I have read elsewhere in relation to VWs this is not an unusual failure. The replacement parts are £900 odd + labour and oils but the only item that failed was the hexagonal drive shaft which rounded at one end cost I guess 10p!. I wonder whether anyone else has experienced this problem with this engine which I think was used in Octavias and Superbs? AND if you did, what did you pay for your repairs and did Skoda help out?

Common fault with balance shaft driven oil pumps which I believe is restricted to the Superb, Passat, A4 and A6 (Not applicable to the Octavia). If I'm right it's the PD transverse mounted 2.0 diesels (Which I thought was only the mk1 Superb with the mk2 being CR but I must be wrong there).

My local Indy has seen loads and says its an expensive fix, even if the oil starvation hasn't damaged the engine. I believe those that have failed at speed have required engine rebuilds.

It could have one of two engines. You really need to look at the options label (usually under the boot carpet and another copy in the log book).

From memory, if it has the BMP engine, then the pump is driven from the balancer shaft.

How much damage has been caused, depends very much on how quickly the engine was stopped after the oil pressure warning light came on.

interesting article on this in last months "Car Mechanics"
