SafeLock and other dashbaord things?

Featured Replies

I can't seem to find the reference in the manual, so hopefully someone here knows the answer?

When I switch off the car it says "safelock" on the dashboard.

What does this mean?

When I start the car 2 little "humps" appear next to the mileage. They go out after a few seconds. What are they for?

Thanks!

I believe this is the automatic door lock mode. This is optional (standard on Elegance) but needs to be enabled by the dealer. It auto locks all doors above around 10mph. When you take out the keys all doors are unlocked.

Not that I have my Citigo yet ;)

On models with remote central lockiing, "Safe Lock" is a reminder that the doors will be deadlocked with a single press of the lock button on the key remote - that's why the locks clunk twice when you lock or unlock. If you don't want the deadlocks set, you have to press the lock button twice within 2 seconds. On most cars (certainly the ones I've had) it's the other way round, with two presses needed to set the deadlocks. See "Safe Securing System", handbook page 25.

The two symbols in the LCD display indicate whether or not the rear seat belts are fastened. Page 22 in the handbook.

Thanks! it doesnt lock over a certain speed, so I think Tom has it right, looks like I have the option to disable a "lock in" although I cant think of a reason why anyone would!

You want the doors locked if you fear being hijacked at traffic lights or having a bag snatched but open if you fear being trapped unconscious inside a smouldering car crash with no one able to get you out...

In 40 years of driving neither has happened though the risks of the former were certainly there when I lived in Mexico back in the 80's...

I believe if you lock the doors when inside due to fear of hijack etc I think you will find in event of an accident if any of the airbags deploy the central locking automatically unlocks all door and boot as a safety feature to allow emergency services to access any casualties

That's a very clever arrangement. But let's hope that none of us actually finds out if it works :)

Deadlocks provide extra security by disabling the interior door handles so a thief cannot simply smash the glass, reach in and open the locked door.

It is important to disable this if you leave passengers in the car - you can single lock them in but not deadlock!

Does the Citigo have deadlocks?,be handy if it did.Can anyone confirm this please.

Yes, it does have deadlocks, and as I mentioned earlier, they are set automatically whenever you lock the doors, either with the remote control, or with the key in the driver's door. When you lock the car you will hear two clunks, the deadlocks are set, and you cannot open the doors with the internal door handles.

If you don't want the deadlocks on, you press the lock button on the remote twice within two seconds, or if using the key in the door, turn it to the lock position twice in quick succession. This disables the deadlocks so that the car is still locked from the outside, but the doors can be opened without a key using the inside door handles. I've just tried it, and it works.

Thanks for that, good to know my Citigo (when I get it) has a good security system as standard.

Apart from the lack of an alarm that is...

Can't believe it doesn't have one :(

I agree that most people ignore them, but if you heard your own going off on the drive, you would investigate

I can remember fitting a moss alarm to my mk2 escort lol

Pretty sure your dealer is wrong

Just has immobiliser and no actual alarm

on the locking questions, from Page 26 of the book of words

The following applies if your vehicle has been locked using the central locking

button.

It is not possible to open the doors or the boot lid from the outside (safety feature,

e.g. when stopping at traffic lights etc.).

Doors can be unlocked individually from the inside and opened by pulling the

door opening lever.

If at least one door has been opened, the vehicle cannot be locked.

In the event of an accident in which the airbags are deployed, the locked doors

are automatically unlocked from the inside in order to enable rescuers to gain

access to the vehicle.

WARNING

The central locking system also operates if the ignition is switched off. Children

should never be left unattended in the vehicle since it is difficult to provide

assistance from the outside when the doors are locked. Locked doors

make it difficult for rescuers to get into the vehicle in an emergency - hazard!

Note

If the safe securing system is activated

» page 25, the door opening lever and the

central locking buttons do not operate.

looking through manual and skoda site for citigo there is no mention of alarm only an imobiliser
