Binding Brakes

Featured Replies

Just come back from a short journey today and both the front and rear offside brakes are binding on, the discs are hot as are the wheels, the nearside wheels are cold. Thought the car was slowing more than normal when off the throttle...any ideas?

The brake pads are driven on to the disc by hydraulic force, but have to slide back passively when released.  So its probably grunge on the brake calliper slider pins that's making them stick on.  Dismantle and clean.

Might be worth greasing the pins too with red rubber grease

Same thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago - N/S rear pretty hot!! Took it to my local Indy (DSB Autocare) where the culprit was found to be build up of corrosion.  Dave cleaned up both N/S + O/S and fitted new pads (N/S had obviously seen some heat!) --- problem solved!
