Satnav postcode update

Featured Replies

Checked out for postcode update on my recently purchased Skoda approved 2009 elegance, was quoted £45 for update by my local dealer is this a fair price,? would it be reasonable to expect the software on the car to be up to date when purchased ?

If its a brand new car, I'd expect it to be bang up to date.

However, if the are updating firmware & maps to the latest available, then I'd pay £45 to do it (on my car).

booked it in to be done on Mon when , service manager said should be cheaper than £ 45 , will there be any difference apart from post codes and I assume map update?

I'd wait with maps update as new version V10 is due soon...

v10 will surely be VW only for a while?

Have v9 got to Skoda dealers yet?

I though Skoda had only recently had V9. Say the last 6-8 months?

I'm not sure but do know that VW have had it most of this year so I can't see Skoda getting copies until early next year.

I'm not sure but if I remember correctly v9 upgrade from Skoda dealer was available ages ago...

It was officially launched in late October and I remember people here mentioning updates to v9 pretty soon after October...

I stand corrected then. So maybe v10 might get to Skoda this year then.

I saw this thread today as I was looking for any news of v.10 maps.

I can confirm that I downloaded v.9.0 (7918) on 16th Oct 2012 and I was certainly not the first so it would be reasonable to expect v.10 in the next few weeks.

My 2009 Elegance Columbus has been successfully updated today to 7 digit post code functionally, cost £45 at main dealer, any future updates would be free when the car is in for a service.

Guys

Newbie alert....  I have a 62 plate Superb Elegance and thought that I would be able to input postcodes in either a 5 or 7 digit format.  However, I can't input postcodes full stop.  If I select 'address' as the start of a new destination the only fields I can input into are 'city' 'street' and 'house number'.  I may well be being incredibly thick, so any help is gratefully accepted...

Also, I have part number 3T0035680E - is this a 'c' version of the head unit?  The other info in the 'secret menu' is HW H70, SW 4120 and map version is 7690.  I'm assuming that I could in theory upgrade the maps as the head unit is the newer type?

Hi Harra, I'm surprised about your not being able to enter postcodes (either 5 or 7 character). They are normally entered using the selection box 'City/ P.cd' after selecting 'Address'.

I have a '61' plate Superb Elegance and my Columbus is just a little older than yours...

Delivery Part Number: 3T0035680E

Hardware Version: H61

Software Version: 3984

Active Area Coverage: Western Europe

Active Map Supplier: Navteq

Map Version HDD: 7918

...it came supplied with the same v8 (7690) maps as yours but I updated last year to v9 (7918) and am looking out for v10 which should be available imminently.

BTW I have considered upgrading the firmware (labelled Software) from 3984 to 4120 but there doesn't seem to be any advantages. It's due for a service soon so I'll see whether it will be done then.

...Chris

PS: Forgot to say that you'll need to get someone with a VCDS tool to enable 7-character post codes if you really don't have the option. Search forum on 'VCDS' for people (other than dealers) who have them.

Cheers Chris.  It turns out I'm clearly a bit thick....  I hadn't realised that you could enter a postcode into the 'city' field and I've spent the past year entering the full address.....  I've just gone and tried it and I have a 7 character postcode  :)

Are there major differences between the map I have and the map you have?

Brilliant news.

Re the maps, I can't say there are major differences but roads are often changed and new ones created so as far as I'm concerned newest is best. In fact I confirmed v9 was different for me as a the Hindhead Tunnel in Surrey was opened in 2012 and so was new in v9.

Cheers Chris.  I'll wait for version 10....
