Google Drive

Featured Replies

I'm trying to upload a revision of a  wide  Excel spreadsheet (24 columns)  into an area of my Google Drive and whilst its completing the upload Google is truncating the width of the converted SS so that the file it creates on the drive shows only 16 columns. When I previously uploaded the original version of this SS (About two years ago), its was fine and there was no tweeking done then to make the full width of the SS available.

Obviously somethings changed.

Any advice on how on how I may tweek this to get all 24 columns to convert across - I note that the Google Drive native SS has 20 columns in default format.

I'm trying to avoid the nausea of reformatting the original excel spreadsheet to solve this problem !

24 columns seems a very small spread sheet for complaints about BT. How many categories are there?

Are you using an app to upload to your drive or a browser?

Do you have "convert to Google file format" enabled or disabled?

I am just using the built-in Google drive uploader (On the web)  to take the Excel spreadsheet off of my Windows 7 desktop and onto the drive. It seems to be converting it automatically. Can conversion be turned-off  ? If so, where's the switch ?

Go to drive in your browser and it's under settings (cog icon)

A spreadsheet would be pointless to complain about BT......maybe an access database connected to a SQL server backend.... :drunk:

Zip it in Windows then upload that. Google shouldn't see it as a spreadsheet and should leave it alone. Either that or use Excel's tools to protect the sheet before you put it up.

Nah. Same problem when I  Win zipped it.

So, I stuck the working Excel file on the Skydrive drive and printed copy of each sheet on One Note - perfectly OK.

I'm surprised that Google drive couldn't handle a simple spreadsheet like this ( 3 sheets, with a maximum of 24 columns, side by side, with about 5 rows of figures (To 2 decimal places) in each, a simple ratio calculating formula at the base of each column, with text headings to the columns and rows, file size on disk 25k), especially in view of the spec for Google drive spreadsheets:-

I thought the multiple sheets might trip it up, but it seemed to handle that OK.

Postscript

A second look at the menu in Google drive  settings cogwheel  symbol (Top RHS of screen) revealed that there is a menu option "Upload settings". Click on  the menu option to convert all spreadhseets and documents to google drive format/or tick "Format select" on upload and the problem is solved - Excel SS now loaded and shows all columns.

Thanks all.
