Hi I need a little help my 51 plate octavia 1.9 tdi dumped its gearbox oil on the road first the gears became hard to engage, then clutch pedal went soft clutch started to slip then all seemed ok but when I pulled over a large pool of oil on the floor gears still engage car drives but top of gearbox is soaked with oil is this terminal regards Paul

Doesn't sound promising. Can you get underneath to see where it came out of?

Doing that today

is it gear oil, or hydraulic fluid.

if the pedal goes soft, it could be a break/bad connection in the fluid line from the master cylinder to the slave cylinder. Check where the hard line runs into tthe top of the box and the slave cylinder. Its a bit of a weakspot the union there.
