Monte Carlo Tech - Anyone managed a discount at the dealer?

Featured Replies

Whilst waiting for my new Octy vRS to arrive, SWMBO has been looking for a new car.

We are both MG fans, and with a budget of 10K she was looking at the new MG3 (has to be a new car). All of a sudden the Monte Carlo Tech comes along at 11,990.

Now the dealer gives the usual spin of "amazing deal, loads thrown in at cheaper price etc" so absolutely wont shift on the price despute me buying a 24K car from there 4wks ago......

Is it worth me going elsewhere, or are the margins razor thin on this particular model;? Has anyone been offered the car cheaper?

Thanks.

I'm going through the same process at the moment (for the 1.6TDi) and haven't been offered anything at all.... in fact I can barely find a remaining car in the system that I can order for when my current lease finishes in December! A few dealer demonstrators coming off their plans at the end of this month and that's about it!

Don't know if this is true but this is what I was told by a stealer when looking at buying a fabia vrs on the no VAT deal

''' before the VAT deal, a dealers gross margin on a new Skoda was 8% plus the money they make on the OTR charges. To make the no VAT deal work, they have to give up 7 of the 8 back to Skoda and Skoda make up the difference''

Therefore the dealer was claiming that effectively they have very little to play with when it came to discounts on the no VAT deal.

The reason I spout this back up (whether I believe it or not) is that I believe the Monte Tech was launched and priced at a time when the no VAT deal was still on.

If the above is true it might explain why further discounts on the price of the Monte Tech are difficult to achieve, bearing in mind that on the above scenario there is 'only' about 500 pounds gross profit on each tech that they sell including the OTR charges (which won't be pure profit as they do have to PDI the car and tax it)

The dealer i got mine have got 3   2 tsi  and 1 1.6 tdi pre reg  £11495/£12495

I paid 11495 for my brand new 1.2 TSI tech but I think they made up the difference in the part ex

Which dealer was that? It would be the TSI she would likely be purchasing.

I knew getting it to 10K would be impossible, but I imagined £11K would've been achievable after much wrangling?

I bought my pre reg Monte tech 1.6tdi (18miles on the clock) a month ago for £11495.

I wanted more money off but the finance manager siad he couldn't reduce the price of the car as they had no margin left in it.

They did however reduce the price of the extra (5yr) warranty I was also buying and gave me more in Part ex for my car.

So in the end they did manage to give me a £500 discount but not on the car.

I was taking out a finance deal which helped because that was where they are making the money.

Also it helps to buy a pre-reg 13 plated car a week or so before the new 63 reg's come out.

Oh yes and I got a Yeti toy thrown in!!!!

Basically if they won't reduce the price of the car see what you can get thrown in for free or for very little money.

And if they don't play ball, walk away. They will probably chase you for the deal.

I haggled £400 off the price of a 1.6TDI Tech for my mum a couple of months back.

Brand new (i.e not pre-registered), no trade-in, and she took the Skoda finance option.

I emailed a couple of Skoda dealers before I got mine and haggled for a good deal over the Internet.

The Seat dealers I was also haggling with said my old car wasn't worth what the settlement figure was so wouldn't do the deal I wanted on a 5dr Ibiza FR.

Got my Tech for a £100 deposit with the same monthly payment as I was paying for my old car and still with the 3 years servicing so they must've knocked something off the price, they played around with the trade in figures so I got the deal I asked for.

Never seen the dealer or the salesman until I went in to pay the deposit and sign the papers and he threw in the Fabia carpet mats and a model Skoda Yeti for my son when we went to pick the car up, all in all a great deal and service.
