Tested the brakes today

Featured Replies

i was hurrying on a deserted country road today with the Rapid, trying to get to my destination rapid-ly :) . I was surprised how agile it felt and the grip it had during corners (always compared to my expectations since it is a family budget car).

right after a tight corner, a truck decided to get off the fields and get in the road at 2mph right in front of me..!!

it was one of these moments that you actually try to remember in the bling of an eye, at what value you have your car and yourself insured...

slammed on the brakes and the car just stopped. the ABS didn't kick in, tale didn't fish, nothing.

just good braking. hell i even had time to hold my bag from falling off the passenger seat.

IMHO, very good brakes for a 105hp car. good even for more hp.

PS as a side note, car, brakes and tires have only 1700 miles on them, so they are in pretty good shape, which helps braking a lot.

First of all I'd like to say that I am happy you are alright and so is the car.

I got the 1.4TSI and I am also very happy with the agility and handling of that car.

brakes are also very good, ABS never kicked in.

what tires do you use by the way?

My is wearing Bridgestone potenza ER300 215/45/16

Yeah I also had to hard brake once or twice, and the car handle it very very well and safely. I feel very safe with my Rapid.

My car came with the same tires, i think they re called duranza er300 and i also have 16" rims.

Does the 1.4 have the same rotors and pads as the 1.2?

I am not sure, how can I check?

I searched the internet a bit, even skod.co.uk, but didnt find any info about front and rear rotor diameter.

The only thing I was able to find is that every Rapid except the 1.4TSI has drum rear brakes, and I have disc brakes at my rear.

also a strange thing I came across reading the technical data is that the 1.4TSI has a 0.30 drag coefficient while the 1.2 has 0.31 (all other versions have 0.30 too)

I think the rear brake spec depends on the country, my 1.2 has rear discs.
