Spare wheel kit that does not fit!

Featured Replies

Bought a spare wheel kit to replace the can of gunk a few months ago.

Skoda garage sold me a 15" wheel kit! at the time I asked are you sure it fits the VRS.

Seen a good few posts on here that wheels need to be 16" or larger to fit. So today decided to see if my spare does fit.

Nope, gets stuck on the brake caliper, arse. Will be speaking to garage tomorrow!

Presume there is a kit for a VRS to replace the 15" spare?

You can get a 16" spare wheel kit which is the one your dealer should have sold you. If you have the recipt you'll be covered under the sale of goods act as the one they sold you isnt fit for purpose

Cool cheers, I don't expect any issues with the dealer. It was done at the same time as the service so is on their system.

As you say it's not fit for purpose if they get funny, but it's such a clear issue should be a straight forward order up a new spare.

Yep, 16 inch full size spare available (when i say full size think its a 205/55 r16).

The vRS has 312mm front brakes, referred to as 16" brakes same as the MK6 Golf GTi/GTD and current gen passat; Mk3 vRS is worse requires a 17" spare as for some reason comes with the 350mm twin pot brakes from the MK7 GTi with performance pack; fricken huge in other words.

I was offered the complete Skoda spare wheel kit complete for £124.00, last week and it is Defo 16".

But sure it is a speed limited looking thing? Or was I looking at something else in the stores area?

It is obviously there mistake and they should change it no problem :)

no worries mate. I was aware of the issue before I got mine thanks to this forum, as was my dealer so they ordered me the correct kit. The 15" will fit the back but not the front on thr vRS

Stupidly I was aware of the issue when ordered, but I was assured it was a standard part and would fit.

Just decided to prove a point today and try to fit it.

Should be an easy swap, but cheers to the forum for educating me! Would hate to need the spare and be left in the do do.

Interesting, will these brakes fit into Mk2 18" wheels?

Not quite sure what you're meaning, the official full size 16in spare does have big yellow warnings on it stating not to go above 50mph/80kmh which is apparently due to the 16in wheel being smaller than the standard wheel on the other side.

Was not sure if it was one of those really skinny type get you home tyres. I had spotted some yellow signs which made me think it was a get you home 30mph thing.

If only the dealers spent a little time on Briskoda, they might actually learn something :giggle:

I was a bit confused by this as well as I'd checked when I bought my car that it had a full size spare but when I took the spare out due to a puncture I found the big yellow warnings on it and was annoyed as I thought I had a proper spare.  The breakdown guy had a look and said it was a proper tyre, on checking here the warning is there because the 16in spare wheel when fitted will be a different size to the standard vrs alloys.

This is what my spare looks like:

My 2012 FL vRS was supplied with a 205/55-16 tyre tyre on a steel wheel.  I have used it on the front after a puncture.  Fits fine.  However, legally as the tyre is a different size to the tyre (225/40-18) on the other side the car is limited to 80kph (50mph) and a standard tyre/wheel should be fitted as soon as practical.

Dealer swapped my 15" spare for. 16" yesterday with no problem.

Another example of why this forum is ace, without the forum one day probably in the rain I would have found the 15" would not fit.

Cheers all!
