Vrs - Estate Or Hatch

Featured Replies

Hi!

I'm once again being tempted by the vRS. Had a quick spin in one yesterday at my local dealer (Derek Slack, Middlesbrough) and came away impressed with not only the car but also the whole experience.

Had a drive to the Bradford dealer today to see a vRS estate in the flesh - They have a brand new one in Silver in the showroom. Nice but not so sure, though I do need plenty of room (2 kids and all the usual junk that kids entail!)

They seemed very keen to do a deal. Said I wasn't in a position to deal as better half is away. So far, I'm planning another run through next weekend when she is back.

Apparently 0% finance is only available on cars that are actually delivered by the end of September and not just ordered! I was quoted approx 12 weeks for a new vRS (hatch or estate!)

So which one to go for.... ???

Tough call! Certainly I think you need to drive both before you can make a decision.

I guess it will all come down to what you want out of the car. The differences are more than aesthetic, with the slight premium being paid for more practicality. Question is - are you the kind of person who would be self conscious about owning an estate car?

No probs about an estate car (I was previously thinking about a Volvo T5 estate) - I think I do prefer the sleek lines of the saloon. Another worry is that when people know you have an estate, you might get roped into all sorts of dodgy trips, i.e. to the tip etc..

Will a saloon be easier to sell than an estate if I need to flog it, do you think?

Cra

Depends why you want it.

The hatch has a damn big boot as it is, so is it worth paying the extra cash for the estate ?

If you do a lot of load-lugging, go for the estate, if its just everyday stuff, then i would guess the hatch is good enough :)

For day to day stuff the saloon should be fine. We do one or two trips to Ireland per year. But even then we always take too much crap so we could just leave more stuff at home.

I went for the (silver) estate over the saloon. One downside of the estate is that it only has 16" wheels, where the saloon has 17" wheels. On the other hand I can fit 4 adults + all the equipment needed for a weeks camping and bodyboard in the estate!

So it's horses for courses.

Hatch, as already said the boot is big enough anyway:)

Obviously in silver too.:D

Need I go on?

And if you're in the Teesside and want to see what a re-mapped car can do - drop me a line :D

Buy a yellow estate.

I've never seen a yellow one and I'm curious.

Really though, the hatch has a huge boot.

But, as mentioned here recently, the braces do compromise the boot a little.

I think the estate might look a little ordinary in silver.

Try yellow or black instead.

I'm one of those people who think that the estate versions of sporty cars are actually better looking as well as being more practical. Last few cars:- Octavia 4x4 estate, Impreza Turbo wagon, Audi A4 Avant.

The boot is fantastic in the Octavia estate with the seats up or down. Don't underestimate how useful it is. Even the car mags reckon that the shape is more 'resolved' in estate form.

Just don't ask him to demonstrate his stereo :p

I went for a Black estate as it was more practical than the hatch and I like the more understated looks of the estate, also it's easier to park than the hatch as you don't have a spoiler in your rear view mirror or you could go for parking sensors on a hatch ;)

Has to be a Black estate though as it makes the wheels look bigger :D .

Estate, silver.

Sometimes the wheels look small, sometimes they look just right.

There's a brand new silver vRS estate in my dealer's showroom -

Go for a Red Hatch with pimp windows

Greg - piccie doesn't seem to be working. Looks like it has too many Kbs to fit - Has to under 100K I think to be allowed...?

Trying to sort it out now

cool. I thought it might be my sloth-like internet connection at first?

Attempt 2

Go for a red hatch with pimp windows

Get a hatch preferably in yellow. personally i think the vrs doesnt look right in estate. The back end doesnt look good, while the alloys are way too small. The boot in the hatch is massive I cant see any more need for space. While the estate is slighly slower, it does have a better rear view.

The estate looks nice in red though, but i would love to see a yellow one with 17"s.

Anyone know what grade of thint those windows are in the pic of the red Octy vRS?

Take it they are legal?

I've just about recovered from the shock of a test drive in panrix2002's black vrs hatch. I just didn't think it was possible to corner so fast.

Well my mind is made up. I just have to persuade the other half.

Should have a better idea about colour/version/price/delivery date etc.. this time next week.

The favourite so far? Silver hatch with cruise and rear parking sensors!

Cra

hatch woohoo!

At the moment id like a vw lupo gti in black!!
