I don't believe it.

Featured Replies

Really not had a lot to add the forum and been lurking, Due to a problem with my left knee (and now looking like hip) I need an automatic and the Fabia is going.

After saying never another Skoda I have gone and done it and bought an Octavia III.  I don't see so many long runs in the future and my around 13500 mile a year dropping back to around 10000 with a lot of town driving so a lovely diesel had to change to a petrol.

It was a close thing between a Toyota Auris Estate and the Octavia Estate, in the end it was down to my daughters knees not being on my back in the Octy -I got over £3000 knocked of the brand new Auris hybrid and virtually nothing of the Octavia.

Financially the Toyota was the better deal but the Octavia Elegance was the better drive and cavernous compared to the Toyota..

Just for info compared to the dreaded Greenline the Elegance has been quite good. Just three issues with the car two minor  and one major. The oil level sensor broke in the first two weeks and the electric windows switches came out 14 months on and the big one for me the rear doors leaked damaging the seats.

Fuel economy has not been that great, I do a lot of varied driving a lot of town then long cross country A/B road driving with dual carriage ways. I am hoping there will be very little MPG difference between the petrol Octy and the diesel Fabia.

Well done Dempsek,

What engine size did you go for? I love the 1.4TSI 140ps. But the 1.2TSI in the Octy is great too as it has a bit more torque over the one in the Fabia at slightly lower revs. On another note. I too suffered a serious knee injury last year and moved to an auto 1.6 petrol. I don't get the same mpg's but it's worth it to have the auto box. Best thing I ever did. whether you have a dodgy knee or not, these autos are brilliant. I didn't go TSI auto as I didn't want to spend too much money just yet on a car although I would of course be getting slightly better fuel economy if I had. Glad you like your new Octy.

I went for the 1.4 Elegance, it was built Monday awaiting delivery sometime mid Nov.  I decided I liked the Elegance spec and could not have the 1.2. The thing that did concern  me (given my history with Skoda) is the engine I am lead to believe it is the same as in the Fabia VRS except one less turbo.

Cannot wait to be driving an auto though and it's quick (for me) and full of gadgets. Given this is a forced change due to arthritis I have for the first time used PCP, I did't like the idea of driving the DSG out of warranty and if I end up not being able to drive I just give it back.

Enjoy your car.

What it does not have is a Supercharger.

the vRS 1.4 TSI has 1 Turbo and the Supercharger.

Thanks for the comments guys.

I wonder how long it will be before someone adds a supercharger to the octy? - and breaks the gearbox.

The Octy 1.4 engine has the same peak torque as the Fabia vRS (250Nm), although it isn't there for as much of the rev range.  Given its the same weight (or thereabouts before someone starts throwing figures at me), it should make rapid progress with the revs in the mid range.

Even if it is the same basic engine as the vRS, it only seems to be the 180PS versions that suffer with issues (if any).  I'm not sure if it is though?

I'm also looking for a 1.4 DSG Elegance Estate for my next steed, so good choice, sir!
