NEW headlight question

Featured Replies

Can you adjust the 'yaw' of the headlight, I mean can I move the beam left or right?

My nearside headlight looks to be angling off to the left more than it should be. I say this because when standing in front of the car the nearside does not shine the same as the offside also, when I'm behind a vehicle the nearside bulb looks a lot dimmer. When I walk off to the front of the car and then move to the side I get the same type of beam as the drivers side. It may be the bulb or it may be the ballast but I wanted to check out the directional issue first.

Thanks, Jon

The nearside light does shine to the left a little as to light the footpath for you to see pedestrians

I understand that but I'm pretty sure mine is well out. I could be wrong though....you know that way were the longer you look at something the more it seems wrong haha

Take it to an mot tester I'm sure they would check and adjust if nesessary and probably either no charge or a couple of quid for the tea fund

Are you sure it's not just where they have to angle them to avoid blinding oncoming drivers?

It's possible i suppose but it just looks different. It could be a number of things but I wanted to eliminate the easy things first. It could be the bulb or it could be the ballast thats causing the beam tolook different. I'm going to take it to a testing station and get them to check it, 2 second job for them and like suggested above a coupleof quid for their tea fund should do it.

I'm coming to the conclusion with more and more dark evenings that even with the Osram Nightbreaker Plus Limited Edition Gold's (long name) my lights are still below par.

The other half's 1.3 Yaris has the original OEM bulbs and looks like It has a light house strapped to the front of the car compared to my candle in the wind.

This weekend I intend to poke around further Jonro2009 style (yellow minion with a spanner :) )and check there isn't something wrong settings wise, the throw is fine and in pitch black you can see where the beam is going and it looks fine but the projectors just seem to be a hindrance or the bulbs just aren't fed much power.

I hate to say it's now annoying me enough to have researched HID kits.

I have to say even with a 600K full HID conversion the lights are still cr4p!

I had the same kit in my Megane RS and it was sooo different. I think its all down to the definite cut off from the shutter system. I really dont know what I can do to improve things, short of banging on some Hella driving lamps!!

I have been thinking of putting a H11 HID kit in the fogs for the dark A roads up here, I know that will start a whole debate/hate campaign against me, but before that starts I would use the fogs as if they where high beam.....turn them off when there are on coming vehicles.

SWMBO has an uncle with a garage in Aviemore, and he has an MOT testing bay. He is going to throw my winter tyres on for me in the next week or so, while it's in I will get him to check the lights and see what they are set at., then report back.

So... does anyone know how to adjust the beam left or right ? thank you

Not sure you can apart from changing right hand dip to left hand dip for changing abroad.

Why would you want to do that?

is the bulb seated correctly in the headlight assembly?

Says in his other thread the projector is actually pointing off sideways mate

is the bulb seated correctly in the headlight assembly?

Yes

the only other thing, I have had a delightful driver damage the headlight of our old mk1 vrs, the headlight looked odd and after digging around I noticed the paint on the bumper had some cracks and then I found one of the mounting points was broken which allowed the unit to move and beam to be off

longshot, as I assume you have had a good look around and would have spotted any damage

I updated my post here http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/353990-headlight-adjustment/ not to double post on this topic.
